Labor Force

Chesterfield's labor pool is large enough to support and diverse enough to supply employees for almost any kind of new business. Richmond-Petersburg metro area's civilian non-agricultural labor force consisted of 667,434 people in January 2013. Chesterfield's portion of the labor pool totaled 175,533 in that same month.

The workforce number is projected to continue to climb through the decade as in-migration augments the natural population increase. A high quality of life makes it easy to recruit key executives and managers from outside the area.

Chesterfield's unemployment rate was 5.7 percent, with 165,484 persons employed in January 2013.
